Govinda received the Star Screen Award Special Jury Award for his role in this movie as 'performer of the decade'.Over the years, the movie has become a classic in Hindi film history and is now considered a cult film. The movie is a remake of the 1993 Tamil film Chinna Mapillai.Shaadiram Gharjode , a matchmaker, is once humiliated by Hoshiyar Chand , when Shaadiram goes to inform him about a family wanting to marry their son to Hoshiyar's daughter. Hoshiyar Chand insults them as he wants both his daughters to marry into the richest family. Gharjode decides to teach Hoshiyar Chand a lesson: He meets a coolie called Raju ("Varun Dhawan") and they go to Hoshiyar Chand's village pretending to be a rich family. Hoshiyar is impressed and he wants his daughter Malti ("Sara Ali khan") to marry Raju. This leads to humorous situations in the climax.

This film’s soundtrack is composed by Sajid-Wajid and Tanishk Bagchi. While the lyrics are written by Danish Sabri, Kumaar, Kausar Munir, Vayu and Bhargav Purohit. The motion poster featured a remixed version of the song "Main Toh Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha". It has been confirmed that the song, originally composed by Anand-Milind and written by Sameer will be recreated for the film.
It was also announced later that "Husn Hai Suhana" from the original film would be recreated. This song was also composed by Anand-Milind and written by Sameer. The rights for the music are bagged by Zee Music Company.
